Welcome
and I am very happy and excited to work with you in creating unique portraits of your beloved pets. I use oil pastels on acid free papers then spray the finished portrait with a painting vanish to insure long lasting quality. |

"Rather than making photo-like portraits, I combine many colors in order to make my animal portraits more interesting and original with just a touch of impressionism. I have lived with many dogs, cats, and birds. As every pet owner knows, each animal has a unique personality and character. It has been my joy to bring out and express these special personalities and characteristics and make them an integral part of my portraits." |
Yumiko was born in Japan and now makes her home in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii. She has been painting since she was a little child and is basically self-taught. Later Yumiko learned painting under Mr. Masanori Uragami's tutelage at the Honolulu Art Academy. Since 1990, she has enjoyed painting animal portraits utilizing oil pastels.

*Impressionism: A style of painting originating and developed in France during the 1870's characterized chiefly by concentration on the general impression produced by a scene of object and by the use of unmixed primary colors and small strokes to simulate actual reflected light.
